Import Regulations in the Cayman Islands

There are no import restrictions, however an environmental tax must be paid upon arrival. Environmental Waste Fees are imposed not only on automobiles, but also on motorbikes, lead-acid batteries, and automobile tires. The majority of the government’s revenue comes from indirect taxes. Imported items are subject to a 20 percent tariff. Some things, such as baby formula, literature, and cameras, are exempt. Automobile duty varies depending on the model’s class and make; for premium models, duty might approach 40%. The duty is likely to be the same as it is in the European Union and in the Netherlands.

Heavy Equipment and Water Taxi Vessels are subject to import restrictions.

Heavy Equipment” refers to the equipment, machinery, and vehicles listed in the Schedule to these Regulations that are intended to be utilized in the course of a business for construction, dredging, road maintenance, engineering, or farm activities, excluding parts.

“Water Taxi” refers to a ship designed solely for coastal excursions in the course of a passenger transportation business.
